Najwa Karam, nicknamed as Shams el-Ghinnieh, is a famous Lebanese singer, born on February 26, 1966 in Zahle, Bekaa Valley, Lebanon.
In 1985 Najwa Karam participated in Layali Lubnan TV talent show and won the gold medal, and in 1987 she participated and won in Laylat Haz TV talent show, that gave her exposure to a wide audience and has started her musical career.
Najwa is best known for performing the traditional Lebanese Mawal in her powerful voice, in addition to other songs in the Lebanese traditional/folkloric style.
In 1989 Najwa Karam released her first studio album Ya Habayeb, and has then released several albums including Shams el-Ghinnieh, Hazi Helo, Ma Hada La Hada, Maghroumeh, Rouh Rouhi, Oyoun Qalbi, Nedmaneh, Saharni, Shu Mghayara, Hayda Haki, 3am Bemzah Ma3ak, Khallini Shoufak. These albums include many hit songs such as Bil Rou7 Bil Dam, Lashhad Hobak, Khaleeni Shoofak, Haida Haki, 3am Bemzah Ma3ak, W Kberna (with Legendary Wadih el-Safi), in addition to the mawaweel and the Lebanese traditional and folkloric songs.
Najwa has participated in many festivals and concerts in Lebanon, the Arab World and worldwide, and has received many music awards. In 2011 Najwa participated as a jury member in the Arabs Got Talent TV show.
