Elissa, born Elissar Khoury, is a Lebanese pop singer, born in Deir al-Ahmar, Bekaa, Lebanon. She started her career as an actress in chansonniers (critical plays) for Wassim Tabbara and the Theatre de 10 Heures. In 1992 she participated in Studio El-Fan talent show, and won a silver medal, and that started her musical career.
Elissa released her first music album Baddy Doub in 1992, and has then released several albums including Akherta Ma3ak, Ayshalak, Bastannak, Tsaddaq Bi Min. Her famous songs include Baddy Doub, Betghib Betrouh, Ajmal Ihsas, Hobbak Waja3, Law Ta3rafou, Bastannak, Bitmoun, Sallemli 3aleh, 3a Bali Habibi.
Elissa has collaborated with other famous Lebanese, Arab and International singers such as Ragheb Alama, Fadl Shaker, Cheb Mami, Gypsy Kings and Chris De Burgh.
She has won many local, Arabic and international music awards. In 2011, she was appointed as the Regional Ambassador for the UNICEF in the Middle East and North Africa.
